Case study: Internal Enterprise Portal

Every company would appreciate having all company data available in one central location, which would save employees time spent searching through various information systems. Common tasks would not take an inordinate amount of time to process. Tasks could suddenly be done faster, easier and could also be monitored and audited at any time. Approving a holiday, ordering goods, authorising a repair or reporting a fault would no longer have to be just a matter of phoning, forwarding emails or manually writing and signing forms. Such a solution would be a gateway to the company’s disparate information systems, where secure access could be provided from a single location. In this way, the employee would not have to remember a number of different access codes or passwords, whose limited validity and constant renewal can block the work of even an experienced user. If such a solution also allowed employees to securely access the Internet, processing or approving tasks would no longer have to depend on whether the employee was working from the office or from home.

Fortunately, building such an environment for SAP systems today is no longer a science fiction but a reality. We are currently implementing several such solutions for our customers. To build such a complex solution we use SAP Work Zone product, which is built on the current state-of-the-art SAP BTP technology environment. SAP Work Zone offers a centralized platform that streamlines processes and improves collaboration. With its intuitive design and robust features, it allows employees to access important information, manage workflows and connect effortlessly with colleagues. This cloud-based tool creates a web-based, unified, personalized and, most importantly, a truly secure environment for everyday work. It has all the prerequisites for this and is therefore a truly worthy successor to the previous cloud version of SAP Launchpad or the on-premise version of SAP NW Portal.

By leveraging this powerful tool, companies can foster a more productive and connected workplace. From document management and shared workspaces to personalized information feeds and task management. Its integration with the SAP ecosystem enables seamless data flow between different applications, making it easy for employees to access the information they need without switching between multiple systems.

Our customers can feel completely secure with SAP Work Zone because it ensures that their business applications are available anywhere in the world with secure access over the Internet. Not only can it add applications from SAP systems to this secure environment, but it also enables the creation of custom applications for other enterprise systems. This creates a central and unified access point for the customer to all their enterprise applications. In addition, the new licensing terms and conditions will enable all employees who in the past did not have access to SAP systems, mainly for economic reasons, to be included in the environment. In addition, the new functionalities can make the portal a universal repository of unstructured data, in which such raw information can be stored as well as subsequently searched efficiently.

Another advantage is the possibility to publish selected cloud services as simple mobile applications on Android or Apple smart devices. In addition, the technology makes it possible to get “SAP” on Apple watches as well, which may seem like something really incredible to fantastic for current users of SAP ERP systems 😊.
