Enterprise information systems are at the heart of any modern organisation as they perform important tasks for the better functioning of the company. How should such systems ideally work to bring maximum benefit to the company? There is obviously no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, but we can say with certainty that they should be modern, reliable, easy to use, secure and integrated into a single entity.
The aim of this newsletter is therefore to provide suggestions, trends, information and, above all, proven examples from practice in order to make the path to a perfect integrated information system as easy as possible. This has been the main reason why we have spent the last 9 months focusing on topics that are very important for building or developing an enterprise system from an integration point of view.
So we started with the topic of choosing a technical platform for digitisation. We introduced the modern cloud platform SAP BTP, which can be used as the core of digitalization of enterprise systems for integration, automation and creation of modern applications with integration directly with the SAP enterprise system.
We further said that before we start creating the first modern applications or integration scenarios, we recommend to digitally record and model these new processes. To do this, it is advisable to use one of the modern process digitization tools, such as Signavio or ADONIS , and first carefully design and “draw” what and how you need to digitize for your enterprise. If you already know what needs to be done, we recommend preparing frameworks, development rules and an integration strategy before you start the actual implementation. Setting these rules will help you implement changes much easier and faster. This is also important so that the development, setup and ultimately the visuals of the new applications look the same, so that the most appropriate technologies are used. This investment in rules will then come back to you in faster editing of the solutions you create, substitutability of the people on the project and last but not least, a seamless operation of the solution.
Furthermore, we have tried to show you how it is possible to build modern enterprise application services, for new applications inside the enterprise, or how to provide selected features of your systems to business partners. We talked about the possibilities of building enterprise applications so that they are simple, secure, and available at any time to employees or external staff and partners.
In other issues, we have written about the benefits and limitations of cloud solutions with the fact that in practice, hybrid environments are becoming the current standard. In the hybrid landscape, it is possible for an integrated system to take advantage of both fundamentally different approaches and technologies such as on-premise and cloud.
We have shown in a number of practical examples that if the foundation of enterprise IS is built correctly, systems can be reliably integrated even for areas where the environment is extremely complex, or where demanding operational requirements are placed on it.
Recent periods have also dealt with the near future of IS building, and that the path to modern IS can be taken now. We have informed you that the next few years will be marked by major technological changes, which will be related to the end of support for the current SAP ERP systems and the transition to the next-generation SAP S/4HANA ERP system.
You can take these changes as a complication or as a challenge to change for the better. Because if you leverage the change correctly and build the core elements and strategy of building enterprise IS correctly, you can count on information systems to help and simplify your work and business now and in the future.
